How To Set Sensible Weight-Loss Goals By Susanne Myers
The key to any successful weight-loss endeavor is to set some sensible weight loss goals. Setting goals will let you track your progress and gives you a definite target to aim for. You don’t want to aim too high and set yourself up for failure or even worse, risk your health by losing too much too fast. At the same time, you want to set a goal that is a little bit of a challenge. Here are some guidelines on how to come up with a sensible weight-loss goal.
Don’t lose more than 1 to 2 pounds a week.
You are aiming for slow and steady weight-loss. To set your goal, decide when you want to lose the weight by, and then expect to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week. So, if you figure a time period of 6 months, you want your goal to be around 26 – 52 pounds.
Even small goals will make a difference.
Don’t feel like you have to lose a lot of weight to make difference in your health. You will see benefits by losing as little as 10% of your body weight. If you weigh 150 pounds, losing 15 pounds may show an improvement in your overall health and the way you feel.
Use the Body Mass Index.
Feeling overweight, or thinking that you should lose some weight can be very subjective. To get a better feel for where you are at, you may want to calculate your Body Mass. Visit http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm to find out what your BMI is and what it means. Adjust your weight-loss goal so you will eventually be in the “normal” category.
Speak to your physician.
Schedule an appointment with your general practitioner. He or she knows your medical history and will be able to advise you on how much you should lose. It is always a good idea to speak to your physician before you start any diet or exercise program.
Set Mini Goals.
Once you set your ultimate goal and have a time-plan for reaching it, break it up into several mini goals to reach along the way. Looking at a big goal can seem a little intimidating. Breaking it up into smaller goals allows you to focus on your first mini goal and gives you a feeling of accomplishment when you reach that goal. Then just move on to the next mini goal until you reach your big goal.
Now that you have your weight-loss goal and the mini goals in place, start by tackling your first mini goal. I know you can succeed by approaching weight-loss one step at a time. Your next challenge is just to get started.

Aerobic Exercise Can Be Almost Anything By Terje Ellingsen
You can put in an aerobic workout in almost any everyday activity. Aerobic exercise is good for your heart and it doesn’t need to be boring at all. Here are just a few activities you can do.
Dancing is Fun
Dancing is so much fun and whether you enjoy a slow, ballroom dance or a nightclub packed with people all moving to heart-pumping techno, as long as you are moving, it really does not matter what type of dance or music. The whole idea is to move your body. Dancing has long been recommended as an avenue to fitness. And it’s fun and enjoyable as well
Workout Tapes
If you have a VCR or DVD, rather than just using it for your favorite comedy or action-packed movie, try sticking in some good workout tapes. Even taking 15 minutes or so every day to workout will get you started. Try that for two weeks and you will be surprised at the results. Once you see that 15 minutes a day makes a difference, you will be encouraged to increase the time spent.
Running in the Sand
If you live in a geographical area, where you have the luxury of sandy beaches, why not take a walk or a running session along the beach. Is feels great to run or walk where the waves of the ocean and the beach meets. The sound of the waves against the shore will make you feel even better.
Walk Your Dog
Instead of just opening the back door to let your dog out, put it on a leash and go for a nice walk. Your dog will appreciate the new scenery and you are doing yourself a great justice.
Have You ever tried Bowling?
Get some exercise by joining a bowling league. You can find a league for just about every level of bowler as well as any day and time of the week. This is a great way to get out and have some fun while also exercising. Yes, bowling does count as exercising, no doubt about that.

The Right Way To Lose Weight By Scott Bianchi
Many of us Americans are impatient people. We decide we want something and that means we have to have it NOW. This explains the reason for the average credit card debt being close to $9000, people over-extending themselves to buy bigger and nicer cars than they can really afford, and so on. The same theory holds true for losing weight.
New Year’s is just days away as I write this and people are going to be making their resolutions. Of course, the most popular one, year after year, is losing weight. People decide for whatever reason that they need to lose weight, usually for the sake of their looks and not to become more healthy. They expect to lose 20 pounds by February 1st because there are hundreds of products out there that say it is possible.
People spend millions of dollars a year on FAD diets. What is the hottest diet of the year, Adkins, South Beach? People join Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers and spend money on their food, because the programs only work with their food. How convenient! So, are they telling you that you will need to stay on their diets/programs for the rest of your life or you will get fat again?
I could fill this article with numerous statistics and facts to show you why it is important to lose weight. There is the ever popular heart disease, increased risk of cancer and many more. The problem is, people know why they should lose weight and don’t need the stats to explain it. The most important thing they need to realize is, they need to do it for themselves.
We are put on this Earth with only two guarantees, 1)life, 2) death. While we are living we need to maximize what time we have. Our body is our biggest resource and our biggest tool in life. People take better care of their cars or furniture in their homes than they do their bodies. Cars and furniture can be replaced, a human life cannot be.
So now you have decided to take your health seriously. Which diet, out of the hundreds, do you chose? The answer is none of them. A healthy life is not about diets, it is about changing your lifestyle. It is about common sense. It is about putting down that bag of Doritos at 10 pm for that late night snack. It is about exercise. It is about the combination of a sensible diet and exercise. If you do change your lifestyle and eat better and smarter, along with some moderate exercise, you will lose weight and become healthier. And, you will do it cheaper than if you splurge on the latest FAD diet. If all these diets were so good, why don’t they stick around long? The answer is, someone out there is trying to make some money off people by convincing them they have the cure for losing weight. They have the best diet, or some magical fat burning pill, or some belt that you wrap around you that burns fat. Don’t waste your money on these schemes designed to make someone else rich. You will need your money for the new clothes you will have to buy when you lose weight.
